Kinnatappam

This appam was made by one of our close family friend’s. I took the recipe from that aunty and we made it the other day but with one variation, we substituted the sugar with jaggery. Kinnatappam is actually an elaborate recipe using many more ingredients and definitely more time...(for the elaborate recipe, click here). This is however a quick and easy version and tasty no doubt.

Ingredients

1 cup coarse rice flour,
 ½ cup jaggery,
1 ½ cup coconut milk,
1 tsp green cardamom powder,
1 tsp ghee,
1 tsp cumin seeds

Method

Mix all the ingredients except the cumin seeds and the ghee. Let it stand for half an hour. Smear a flat dish with the ghee. Pour the mixture into this flat dish. Sprinkle the cumin seeds on top.

Steam till done. Cool and turn it over onto a plate. Cut into pieces of desired shape and size.

You can also skip the cumin seeds if you prefer and mix in some cashew powder to the dough for a different and richer taste.
