Suran Chutney
This chutney is actually made my mother, I
am merely chronicling it here so I have the recipe handy whenever I want to
make it.
Ingredients
¼ kg suran,
1-2 tbsp roasted and pounded red chillies,
¼ tsp roasted and powdered fenugreek seeds,
1 tbsp tamarind pulp,
Salt to taste,
½ cup oil,
1 large pinch of asafoetida,
1 tsp mustard seeds,
1 tbsp urad dal,
3 halved red chillies
Method
Peel and chop the suran. Cook till it is
well done. Grind this with the roasted and pounded red chillies, powdered
fenugreek seeds, salt to taste and the tamarind pulp.
Heat oil and add the urad dal, mustard
seeds, asafoetida and halved red chillies. When the mustard crackles add the
suran paste and fry it well. Serve this with idlis, dosas or even plain rice
and curd.
